Small business Saturday - 3 December 2016
Thank you to everyone who participated - over 150 people! - and to the prize givers

Release your creative beast!
Fancy having one of your creations in our Chorlton Arts Festival exhibition? Of course you do!!
This year's exhibition is all about inspiring people to dip their toe in the world of crafts or try something new. We're going to fill our big shop window with all animal-themed crafts. How many different types of crafts will we find? The more we exhibit, the more we are likely to encourage others to have a go themselves.

So if you have hand-crafted an animal that you think would look good in our window, do email us a picture of it, or pop in the shop with it. We're setting up the exhibition on 19 May, so please get in touch with us before then! You will be able to collect it again after 29 May when the exhibition finishes.

There are lots of other events through the 10-day Chorlton Arts Festival, so do check out their website to find out more. The festival organisers welcome volunteers to help at events, as well as with distribution of the programmes, so do get in touch if you want to get involved by emailing Ella or Kate at or

So Chorlton!
Join this new competition run in conjunction with our wonderful Chorlton Traders Association to decorate one of their brilliant new 'So Chorlton' bags. The artwork is designed by Chorlton's much loved artist, Anna Violet, and funds raised through their sales go towards looking after the flower planters around Chorlton.

So, come to the Make It shop to buy your bag for only £2.99 (also available at Elliott's grocery store). Embellish it however you wish - let your creative juices flow to use any materials you fancy. We've heard talk so far of sewing, colouring in, glueing on buttons, tie-dye and even batik!

This is the best bit: The competition runs throughout this year up to December 2016. Chorlton Traders will give a £10 Chorlton voucher as prize every two months.
The competition is open to all ages.

Submitting your bag to the competition is really easy - and fun. You don't need to bring it to the shop, just email us a picture of it. Now then, we would like to see you with your bag in your chosen place in Chorlton. It could be your favourite place or somewhere you think is very 'Chorlton' or anywhere you wish to pose. Do photograph both sides of the bag. We will then upload all the images to our Pinterest page so you can all admire each others' efforts. You don't have to pose with it if you're shy...
Please email your pictures - or any questions - to Danielle at

Check out the bags submitted here on the Make It shop Pinterest page

It's win-win! You get to personalise a lovely bag to use, look after the environment by not wasting plastic and paper bags and fill your local area with gorgeous flowers.
How brilliant is this?

We love getting involved in different events at the Make It shop. We celebrate special times of the year with window displays, workshops or drop-in sessions as well promoting related crafts for example at Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day or Easter. We also join in local events in Chorlton such as Chorlton Book Festival and national events like Small Business Saturday. An especially popular one has been our windpw exhibition and craft activities for Chorlton Arts Festival where we focused on everything wool related with our very own 'Chorlton Baa'rts Festival'.

We've run our own competition too with the Chorlton Elephant Parade being especially popular. We sold our entired stock of one hundred papier mache elephants - not all purchases were intended for competition entry - and 56 trooped back in!
